The bicycle has long been a part of contemporary art. Some authors make installations out of it, while others generally draw with it. And the French art studio Pixelux Studio decided to turn this two-wheeled vehicle into a source of energy for its light work.

The light installation The Magic Cube was created on the basis of the pedestal of the equestrian monument to King Louis XIV in the central part of the French city of Lyon. It is a three minute abstract video loop. Moreover, it is looped both in the plot and in the physical plane, wrapping the pedestal mentioned above in a circle.

At the same time, electricity for this installation is produced right here, on the spot. Twenty-eight bicycles are installed around the monument, each of which is equipped with a dynamo and connected to a common generator.

So any spectator can get on one of the bicycles and start pedaling. The energy generated by all these vehicles is quite enough for the light installation to work. And even the laziest and most physically weak person can work with their feet for three minutes.

However, the brightness of the video on the installation directly depends on the intensity with which people will pedal their bicycle. But at the end of each such three-minute set, spectators and participants of The Magic Cube will receive not interactive, but real reward - fireworks in the sky over Lyon.
