There is a trend in contemporary art that puts in the first place not the form, but the process! A striking example of this trend in art is installation "A Woman Made of Candles"created by a Belgian design company A. F. Vandevorst for Arnhem Mode Biennale 2011.

Wax is an excellent material for modern sculptures. First, it is relatively cheap. Secondly, it is very flexible. Thirdly, you can make candle sculptures from it. For example, how they are made by the artist Urs Fischer, who presented his sculptures-candles at the Venice Biennale 2011, or the Belgian design studio A. F. Vandevorst, whose work "A Woman Made of Candles" was presented at the Arnhem Mode Biennale 2011.

The sculpture "A Woman Made of Candles" depicts a woman lying on a bed. But this woman is not just lying. She lies and melts right before our eyes! Day after day, it changes, decreases in size, literally, flows away. And in the end, in the weeks that Arnhem Mode Biennale 2011 lasted, this woman simply disappeared.

The secret of this disappearance lies in the fact that the figure of the woman in "A Woman Made of Candles" is made of wax. And, in essence, it is a huge candle. Rather, fifteen huge candles that were set on fire at the very beginning of the existence of this installation, and which in two weeks of its existence completely destroyed it.

It is difficult to say what conceptual thought is contained in this unusual installation by A. F. Vandevorst. If it were a man, one could joke: "The soldier is asleep - the service is underway!" But this is a woman! The designers from A. F. Vandevorst themselves do not comment on the idea of the sculpture “A Woman Made of Candles”. In general, "The woman is asleep - the milk has run away!"
