The works of the American Travis Collinson are a symbiosis of classical painting and minimalist abstraction. People, nature, space, objects - all coexist in an alarming state of increasing entropy. Inspired by the early work of Lucian Freud and classical painting, Collinson creates a strange, frightening, but very curious reality.
The photographic accuracy of the images, muted tones and strange people - it seems that you can recognize your acquaintances in them - are mesmerizing, and the distorted perspective, disproportionately large eyes of the characters depicted and the seeming routine of their surroundings frighten, but at the same time act on the viewer magnetically.
Collinson is definitely a subtle psychologist. The emotional impasse in which, as it seems, his characters find themselves, mysteriously affects the viewer. His art can hardly be taken calmly. Surprisingly, Collinson needs the most common crayons to create this Kafkaesque world.
Collinson exhibits extensively: his paintings can be seen in various galleries throughout California. Even a museum like the Berkeley Art Museum hosts exhibitions of his work. The vast majority of his paintings are kept in private collections.
