Andy Paiko is a bit of an artist, a bit of an engineer. His works are on the border between science and art, between functionality and beauty. He assembles mechanisms by hand, and they all - from the spinning wheel to the seismograph - actually work. No wonder? But they are almost entirely made of glass!
Contemplation of the author's works of art inevitably suggests that alchemy and magic still exist. Why else was it necessary to create all these objects from glass, if only not in order to then take advantage of their unusual and special properties? And if all this is so, then what can be measured with a glass seismograph or an accurate glass balance? What animal can fall into a glass trap? What kind of yarn can you get from a glass spinning wheel? If Andy Paiko knows the answers to these questions, then he keeps his secrets to himself.
“My career as a glassblower started unexpectedly, but since then this occupation has become an integral characteristic of my personality. Glass has become my most important voice, a way of communicating with other people and my creative center. I love what I do, - says Andy Paiko. - The skill of glassmakers has existed for about 4 thousand years, and since then the process has not changed significantly. Most of the glass pieces that I saw were too homogeneous and similar to each other. I try to be more original. Well, no matter what motives were behind the creation of glass mechanisms, the result is admirable.
