Glass is like honey: if you melt it, it will be just as transparent and thick, viscous and malleable. This association is likely one of the reasons why the British artist Heather Gillespie she prefers to work with glass, and she chose the appropriate specialization at the local university - an engraver on glass, but not on any glass, but on the famous Bohemian one. Heather Gillespie is called one of the few British artists who work in glass art, namely engraving. The artist lives in the small British town of Wolverhampton, from where she repeatedly traveled to the Czech Republic, the homeland of Bohemian glass, in order to learn the art of high-quality engraving there, improve her technique and bring it to perfection. The surface of glass, according to Heather Gillespie, is like the surface of a diamond. And if you handle it correctly, it can shine with an amazing light, and the rays of light will play tag, refracting in the outlines of the drawing applied to the glass surface.
For processing Bohemian glass, the artist uses the original technique of the 16th century, which consists in grinding on a copper engraving machine. It was this art that Heather Gillespie went to study in the Czech Republic. Each glass product that comes out of the artist's hands is exclusive and unique, since it is never repeated in drawings and ornaments. A separate sketch is prepared for each piece, which then turns into a sketch, and when the glass surface is completely sanded and ready for operation, this fragile, transparent work of art is born.
Of course, having a tender love for thick and viscous honey, the artist could not resist mastering the art of glass blowing. So, in her portfolio, in addition to the Bohemian stele with the author's engraving, there are also such products that were created from scratch and brought to perfection. Among them are glasses, vases, shades, decorative interior items, and you can see all this glass wealth on Heather Gillespie's personal website.
