Marcel Seppen is a Belgian artist and graphic designer who makes a living working with advertising agencies and teaching at the Brussels College of Art and Design. And in his free time, he is engaged in digital painting, drawing laconic philosophical pictures. Their hero is just a person with a small letter, according to the author's definition - "everyman" (anyone, everyone), who is easily lost in the ranks of the same faceless (in the literal sense of the word) "eurymen".
Marcel Ceuppens began to paint philosophical pictures about little gray people about two years ago, when he wanted freedom of creativity. By depicting the constrained, lonely and perceptible characters, the artist himself freed himself from negative feelings - such is the great power of art.
Marcel Seppen is a clear follower of his compatriot Rene Magritte. He also writes restrained philosophical paintings depicting people without faces, in places on the verge of parody. So, the work "Snowman" ("Snowman") suspiciously resembles the "Son of Man", only instead of an apple that obscures a person's face - a nose-carrot. The biblical symbol of temptation and the fall has been replaced by a phallic one.
The main character of Marcel Seppen - "everyman" - appears in pictures either in splendid isolation, or in a formation that consists of his own clones. Faceless standard figures, as if stamped in a factory for the production of average people, evoke the sympathy of the viewer.
Why? The thing is, it's pretty easy to associate yourself with such a character. After all, we are all just ordinary people. Belonging to a consumer society, loneliness, the collapse of the universe - who is not familiar with these problems that a modern Belgian artist raises in his digital illustrations?
Marcel Seppen recalls that there is always a way out in creativity, with the help of which you can change the world beyond recognition - at least in your imagination. Even if gray concrete blocks of impressive size are hanging over you, ready to crush you at any moment, do not forget about the red solar circle. This, of course, will not solve the problem, but it will give self-confidence, which the son of man so often lacks.
