Young Yaroslavl photographer Pyotr Lovigin is 32 years old. He devoted several years of his life to creating an amusing series of photographs "Takeshi Kitano and other icons", where, in addition to the declared Kitano, there are many more interesting characters - historical figures, movie characters and even cartoon heroes.

Petr Lovygin was born in 1981 in Yaroslavl. After completing his architectural education in 2004, having not yet had time to find a job, Peter buys himself a camera. “I bought a camera for fun, I thought that photography as a hobby would suit me perfectly. Today is my job."

“Our life is full of doubts, - the photographer reflects, - today photography for me is like a drug, like an obsession - I just cannot give up this occupation.” It is noteworthy that Peter each time creates a series of photographs that are united by one theme. Of course, each of these photographs can be perceived out of context, but only viewing the entire series can form a whole picture for the viewer.

In 2008, curators from the MDF (Moscow House of Photography) found it from catalogs. It was then that they invited the young photographer to make three exhibitions as part of the Photobiennale. Director of the MDF Olga Sviblova noted Lovygin's talent, and “getting praise from her is worth a lot, after that I believed in myself,” says the photographer.

One of the three series of works presented at the Photobiennale was a series called Takeshi Kitano and Other Icons. “I started with Kitano because I'm a big fan of him,” says Lovygin. Despite the fact that this particular series has gained the greatest popularity in the Internet community, Lovygin considers it to be the most "non-typical" for his work. According to the photographer himself, the photographs in this series are universal, they can be viewed in any order. The perception will not change from this. “A series can be divided into parts and published in a magazine, for example, one photo at a time,” says Lovygin, “but there are episodes that you can't do that - it's like taking a phrase out of context, the whole meaning changes.”

Oddly enough, the young photographer does not draw inspiration from the work of his venerable colleagues. The world of cinema is much closer to him in this sense. He "breaks" the films of his favorite directors (Takeshi Kitano, Kim Ki Duk, Iranian directors) into shots and selects those that impressed him the most - this is how the learning process takes place.

There are many ways to use celebrity images in your art. For example, the artist Bernard Pras creates unusual portraits-installations of celebrities from scrap materials.
