Several years ago, golf, the favorite game of English aristocrats, was included in the list of Olympic sports. This is not surprising, because her fans are becoming more and more every year, according to statistics, there are more than 100 million of them on the planet. Traditionally, players gather in golf clubs, but those for whom this is problematic can go out with clubs directly on the street and score balls at their pleasure. Such "street games" are called - Urban Golf!
The name Urban Golf itself indicates that it is an analogue of a traditional game, but adapted to urban conditions. Bumpy streets and gray asphalt, all kinds of construction sites and parking lots - there are many local obstacles in any city. Their special appeal lies in the fact that they change rapidly, giving players the opportunity to improve their technique and hone their skills. Lampposts may well replace trees, and buildings will become an alternative to forests, sewers - to sand bunkers.
Interestingly, the idea of creating an urban golf course first appeared in 1992 with Brian Schilling, an ordinary office worker from Berlin. The man began to play golf in an area that was located near his place of work. Today there are a lot of fans of this sport all over the world.
Of course, the game has undergone some changes due to its adaptation to the street environment. For example, hitting the ball on the pavement is difficult, so participants are encouraged to use a small mat. And digging holes in the asphalt is problematic, so players use special trays, the players' task is to hit the target. However, the main difference between urban golf is that the game uses special balls made of leather and stuffed with goose feathers. The fact is that traditional golf balls are too hard and can injure passers-by.
Urban Golf is a great alternative to classic golf. Players do not need to adhere to a special dress code or special rules. Jonathan Bartlett took a non-standard approach to depicting golf lovers in a series of drawings in the style of the 50s, one of his works is dedicated to golf club members!
