The Jurmala Art Fair, an international art fair for contemporary art, opened on July 18 in Latvia and is scheduled to close on July 22. Visitors to this fair had the opportunity to chat with renowned film director David Lynch, winner of numerous prestigious awards. Communication of visitors with this director became possible thanks to the organized videoconference. At the same time, David Lynch himself was in his apartment.
While communicating with the visitors of the Jurmala Art Fair, the director talked a lot about the difficulties that contemporary artists have to overcome. He noted that feature films have serious problems, as viewers prefer to visit cinemas only when they show blockbusters. Few people are interested in art-house today. The famous filmmaker called cable TV a new place for art house, which provides freedom to work and is a place for innovation.
When making films, according to Lynch, one should not be guided by current trends. Making a film is not an easy and lengthy process, which can take several years. By the time the work is completed, the world can change a lot, as well as trends. For this reason, the director recommends being honest with the idea being expressed. It is the sincerity in creativity that is the most important factor.
Talking about himself, Lynch noted that during his work, meditation helps him a lot. For the first time this method of relaxation he used back in 1977 while working on the film "Eraser Head". The director was very worried about the future, and meditation helped him get rid of such experiences, after which he had self-confidence, more interesting ideas. The technique of meditation is not complicated and it will take only four days to master it, and after that it will be possible to use it all your life.
For the first time in the history of Latvia, where the Jurmala Art Fair takes place, an exhibition of Lynch's artworks has been organized. Visitors are presented with 37 works by the director, which he created at the time when he decided to leave the cinema and try his hand at other forms of art. David Lynch at the time worked on the creation of sound installations, photographs, drawings and paintings.
