On June 24, the opening of the twenty-fifth International Street Theater Festival took place in Arkhangelsk. This event started with a carnival procession, the venue of which was the Severnaya Dvina Embankment. More than eighty performances will be shown within the framework of this festival. This time, 20 theaters took part in the event, not only from Russia, but also from other countries.
Representatives of the news outlets spoke with Viktor Panov, artistic director of the Arkhangelsk Youth Theater, who is also the organizer of the street theater festival. He said that in the year of the theater he wants to attract the maximum number of people to this type of art, to instill in them a love for the theater.
In total, groups from eight countries are taking part in the festival this time. These countries are: Israel, Japan, Finland, Argentina, Canada, Spain, Germany and the Russian Federation. Russia at the festival is represented by theater groups from the Arkhangelsk region, Sevastopol, Voronezh and St. Petersburg. 40% of the total program falls on Severodvinsk and Arkhangelsk. 60% of the festival program was given to groups from other countries, as told by Anastasia Dedeshina, Assistant Artistic Director. The Street Theater Festival attracts a lot of spectators every year. Some guests periodically attend this event. For example, this time again the Arkhangelsk festival decided to visit El Pace, the "man-orchestra" from Argentina. This time he came with live music, clownade and beatbox. His show is called "Hey Pacha!"
The participating collectives represent various theatrical trends at the festival. The show called "Our Streets", which will be held on the Severnaya Dvina Embankment, will be shown by the "Eternally Drinking and Walking Orchestra" from Spain. It is a mixture of contemporary classical covers and own compositions. There is a place in the street theater festival and magic show, which will be presented by the Man of the World. Interesting are the performances of Pierrick Saint-Pierre, who studied with Vietnamese and Chinese circus artists of the highest class, who most of all resemble circus acrobatic acts.
Many performances are planned to be shown several times at different venues in Arkhangelsk, but there will also be shows that will be shown only once, for example, a performance titled “Mephisto Waltz” by Anton Adasinsky and the “Derevo” laboratory. In addition to theatrical performances, master classes and flash mobs are planned during the festival.
