The dismantling work of the sculpture "Samson Opening the Lion's Jaws" had to be debugged for several days, as it was necessary to fit a powerful crane to the sculpture. As the workers explained, they need a crane that would be able to lift about 5 - 6 tons at an extension of 40 meters.
First, the workers dismantled the fish figurines that surrounded the plinth. And the very figure of "Samson" is easy to remove, it is not attached to the base, but rests on it under the weight of its weight. One of these days, a crane will be brought to the park and by the New Year "Samson" will leave its place.
The famous figure has been in place since 1947. The sculpture was last restored in 1928. By April 2011, the workers plan to renew the gilding on the sculpture and repair the pedestal, which is in disrepair. The restoration will cost 14.6 million rubles.
The sculpture "Samson Opening the Lion's Jaws" was erected in Peterhof (a suburb of St. Petersburg), which symbolizes the victory of Russian troops over the Swedes in the Battle of Poltava, won on the day of St. Sampson the Stranger.
Initially, the figure was cast from lead, then it was replaced with a bronze one. In World War II, she was kidnapped by the Nazis. But according to the remaining photographs, the sculpture was recreated again, and in 1947 it found its place.

Why the Itinerants disowned the artist Bodarevsky and removed his canvases from the opening days
The Wanderers are a special caste of Russian artists who have left behind a most valuable legacy in the treasury of world art. Who does not remember the names of the most prominent of them. But today I would like to recall the forgotten name of the Itinerant, whom colleagues in the workshop considered completely alien in their midst. And, if it were the will of some of them, the gifted portrait painter Nikolai Kornilievich Bodarevsky was expelled from the partnership. For what he fell into disgrace with his colleagues and why they could not exclude the "negligent
Why the restoration of Notre Dame Cathedral is under threat: Coronavirus, marauders, etc
At the end of March, thieves climbed into Notre Dame Cathedral, which has not been rebuilt after last year's fire. And no wonder: at a time when the inhabitants of the French capital are sitting in their houses on self-isolation and the streets are practically empty, the likelihood of looting is very high. We can safely assume that in the current situation, attempts to penetrate into the historic building by strangers will continue. Moreover, this is not the only problem of Notre Dame Cathedral, which worries the clergyman
