Old, decrepit, decayed wooden furniture is not needed by anyone, so it is sent to the fire, to the dump, to the trash, not at all regretting what they did. But as you know, for one it is rubbish, for another it can be real wealth. It was there, in the junkyard, that the sculptor and painter Marc Sparfel finds "spare parts" for sculptures, and creates more and more new characters for his zoo made of wooden furniture … I must say that the animals in this zoo live unusual, surreal. They only vaguely resemble those living beings that the artist took as a basis. But this is the "trick" of the art project. Mark Sperfel collects the strongest and most intact parts of wooden products in a landfill, brings them home and examines them from all sides, figuring out what a piece of wood looks like and where to attach it. As a result, strange wooden giraffes, bulls, elephants, antelopes, lambs appear …
The sculptor admits that he himself is incredibly interested in working on "forest animals", because he rarely thinks in advance what kind of animal will turn out, say, from an old chair, shelf, ladder and clothes hanger. Sometimes, in the process of work, a wooden animal, conceived as a deer, is overgrown with new details, and now we have a cow, a horse, a cheetah … Or even a crane in a swamp.
An entire series of outlandish animals made from old wooden furniture can be seen on Marc Sparfel's website.
