With the advent of books about Harry potter thousands of teenagers around the world dream of visiting Hogwarts - School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Despite the fact that J. K. Rowling herself does not give clear information about this educational institution, it is known for certain that the novel describes a real Alnwick Castlewith a history spanning ten centuries …
To get to Hogwarts, the wizarding students had to travel on the Hogwarts Express, which departed from platform 9¾ of King's Cross Station on September 1. In reality, it is much easier to get to Alnwick Castle: transport runs here every day, and about 800 thousand tourists come to see the fabulous landmark every year.
Alnik was founded in the XI century: at first there was a wooden fortress, and later a stone castle was built, which has survived to this day. For more than 800 years, the castle has been owned by the English noble family of de Percy. The dukes of Northumberland came from the Percy clan, today Alnwick is recognized as their current residence.
Alnwick is considered the second largest residential castle in England. Its architectural ensemble includes two ring buildings connected by passages, as well as three towers. After World War II, the building was actually used as an educational institution. Thanks to constant renovations, Alnwick was preserved, so the castle was chosen as the location for filming the films about the adventures of Harry Potter. There are two picturesque lakes not far from the castle, which greatly enlivens the landscape.
After tourists began to come to Alnik, other sights began to appear on the territory of the castle. A garden with a beautiful fountain was laid out next to the castle, and a complex of tree houses was also set up here.
Another place that fans of "Potteriana" will surely like - themed hotel in London, stylized as the legendary Hogwarts … Here, young wizards can immerse themselves in a fairytale atmosphere, finding flasks with potions, pots and, of course, a book of spells next to the bed.
