The organizers of Sotheby's hope to help out more than $ 80 million for the famous work of the Norwegian Expressionist. Before the start of the auction - April 13 - 27 - "The Scream" will be exhibited for the first time in London, after which the painting will be delivered to New York.
The first of the series of paintings "The Scream" was created in 1893, and the painting was originally called Der Schrei der Natur ("Scream of Nature"). Today this painting is on display at the National Gallery of Norway. In 1994, the painting was kidnapped, but returned a few months later. In 2004, "The Scream" was stolen from the Munch Museum in Oslo, and the painting was returned to the exhibition in 2006.
Munch's painting, which will be displayed at the May Sotheby's auction, has been kept by the collector Olsen, whose father was a friend of the artist, for more than 70 years.
