Sheikhs from the United Arab Emirates can afford whatever they want. They can equip a tennis court on the roof of a skyscraper or a restaurant in a huge propeller at a height of hundreds of meters. They can and order to turn the largest mosque in Abu Dhabi into a huge light installation.
Just yesterday, on the Kulturologia. Ru website, we talked about the unusual work of the French company CT Light Concept, which turned the facade of the Celestine Theater in Lyon into a huge interactive pinball Urban Flipper. Today we will tell you about another large-scale light installation that has recently appeared in Abu Dhabi.
This installation was created by Obscura Digital from San Francisco. And the basis for it was the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, one of the largest Muslim temples in the world.
Forty-four spotlights with a total brightness of 840,000 lumens were used to create this light installation. With their help, a surface of almost 20 thousand square meters is covered with light. Moreover, the facade of the building itself, and the four minarets and twelve domes of the mosque are illuminated.
The three-dimensional light image created as part of this unusual installation shows viewers a video sequence that combines historical images, national Arab artistic motives, natural and geometric elements, and much more. These videos were created jointly by American and Arab specialists, so that they combine the best of the culture and technical capabilities of the Western and Eastern worlds.
An amazing light installation at the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi was launched on December 2, 2011 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the founding of the United Arab Emirates.
