Artist James Turrell, a pioneer in the use of light as part of an installation, once said about vision: "Seeing is an emotional act." Armed with this postulate, and the fact that we see the surrounding objects due to their ability to reflect light, Charles Matson Lume (Charles Matson Lume) was inspired to create his own light installations with sculptural and architectural elements.
“Light is one of the elements of my work. Any material that I use in my work, whether it be wrapping paper, stickers or acetate, carries a certain semantic load, "says the artist." While the object interacts with light, other meanings are released. Sometimes the shadow or light pattern is so bizarre and interesting that it seems more realistic than reality itself. " The connection between materials and light is interesting in itself, since we are dealing with the main creative environment of the artist. However, the elements and structures used to enhance and support the light component still have a more conceptual meaning.
Charles Matson Lumé earned an MA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a BA in philosophy from Wheaton College, Illinois. His works have been exhibited in such prestigious exhibition spaces as: Irish Museum of Modern Art (Dublin, Ireland), Babel Kunst (Trondheim, Norway), Hunter College (New York), Minnesota Museum of American Art and many others.
Charles Lumé is not the only one concerned with the visual component of his installations. Inspired by the works of the genius Salvador Dali, Japanese designers Rikako Nagashima and Hideto Hyoudou created the stunning Water Mirror project that impressed many surrealism fans.
