The relationship between man and nature has recently become one of the most important topics in contemporary art. Artist Norm Magnusson has brought this theme to life in the Decorating nature series, decorating leaves, stones and fruits with vibrant designs.
“I tried to create art that was both beautiful and meaningful, art that was aesthetically and intellectually accessible and that touched on important topics,” says Norm Magnusson. "The topic of my current work is the result of my work over the past two decades - the study of the intricate and numerous relationships between man and nature."
The artist says that he always takes paints with him when he goes on vacation. A year and a half ago, while in South Carolina, he painted the first sheet, followed by a whole series of "Decoration of Nature". “We use nature as we need it and as it seems convenient to us: we strive to bring order to it, we try to explain nature with a language that does not belong to it, we try to make it more attractive, we try to make it better, we try get all the possible benefits from it. Some of our attempts are successful, others are doomed to failure. This is what all my work is about,”the author explains to the audience.
Norm Magnusson notes that another important theme in his work is beauty. “The beautiful is the best friend of reflection. If the photo is beautiful, then the viewer spends more time looking at it. If the viewer spends more time, then he begins to notice not only a beautiful picture, but also ponder its meaning. The artist hopes that his work will also be able to make viewers not only see beauty, but also think about its content.
Norm Magnusson was born in 1960 in New York. The author is not only an artist, but also a political activist. The artist is also known as the founder of such a movement in art as funism.
