It has come to pass. At the Australian Sculpture Festival, which takes place annually on the beach near the Gold Coast, the silvery fish made their way to land, repeating the feat of their cross-finned ancestors. And literally knocked down a jamb. Fish made of metal plates appeared on the beach at the suggestion of sculptor Richard Howie, who built a funny structure that shimmers in the sun.
"There is something enchanting about the glitter and shimmer of a school of fish frozen in motion," says the creator of magical fish (not gold, but silver), Richard Howie.
Perhaps the smallest visitors to the beach event liked the school of fish the most. Children wandered around the sculpture of a Queensland master, squinting from the sun glare on the scales and trying not to break anything, giving adults an example of how to behave with the wondrously beautiful inhabitants of the depths of the sea.
