Using pen and ink, Yellena James creates truly unique ornamental art. What starts out as a single bend, or line, later evolves into flowering plants, marine life, animals, birds, and even beautiful ladies. The artist's works are described as "colorful compositions of organic forms and intricate lines, floral, fantastic and intricate at the same time." In each of her paintings, Elena James tries to create a deep world in which her spirit and emotional character lives.
Elena James (Yellena James) was born in Sarajevo, but at the age of 18 she moved to the United States. She studied at the University of Florida, where she received a diploma in graphic design and painting. Elena is currently engaged in illustration as a freelance artist. The artist enjoys drawing with pencils, pens, markers and ink on canvas. She also prefers acrylic paints, with which she writes on a wooden plate or canvas.
Elena James says that she is inspired by many things, she is intrigued by the microcosm that exists in parallel with us, she loves to discover new living forms, plants, marine life. All of this ignites her creative imagination and inspires to create her own flora and fauna. The artist tries to recreate new forms based on how she sees the invisible but existing world around us.
Elena James never plans or thinks ahead about the composition of her paintings and drawings. It all starts with one single element around which the plot is layered and developed. She never knows how her work of art will end, and how to connect all the elements into a whole. Everything happens directly in the creative process.
Currently, Elena James' work is represented by the Grass Hut gallery in Portland, where the artist lives.
