This British artist has been working miracles for twelve years now. From old car tires and hubcaps found on the highway, he makes stunning sculptures of various animals and mythical creatures.
Seeing more than household rubbish in car accessories, British artist Ptolemy Elrington boldly declares itself and its environmental priorities in the choice of materials for creativity. "I love working with old materials to showcase one thing - what is trash for one person can be a real treasure for another." Indeed, caps with BMW, Mercedes, Ford and Volvo emblems literally take on new life in the work of this British craftsman.
“The most difficult thing for me,” says Elrington, “is deciding on the size of the future sculpture. If the sculpture is small, then the material has to be cut, which instantly depersonalizes it. If the sculpture is large, it looks great, but a lot of materials are required. I did some large-scale work, but I had to tinker."
Ptolemy was born in the south of England, but his childhood and youth were spent in the north. In the mid-eighties, the future artist studied art and design at Bradford College, then traveled a lot, worked in the field of design, implemented large-scale projects, organized art communities.
Today he devoted himself entirely to the creation of animals from a wide variety of materials. In addition to car hubcaps, grocery carts, car parts and other scrap metal are used. The artist has exhibited several times in London, Brighton, Haslemere, Rutland, Salisbury, Scotland, as well as in Barcelona, Spain and Greece. Elrington currently lives and works in Brighton.
Another famous painter, French Edouard Martinet, also prefers scrap metal to other materials for creativity … His talent, imagination and skillful hands help the most diverse representatives of the living world to be born: fish, amphibians, insects and birds.

British animal holocaust: before the war, the British euthanized more than 750 thousand pets
Evacuating children, darkening windows and killing cats - this is how Great Britain prepared for World War II. In 1939, the government called for getting rid of pets so as not to condemn these unfortunate creatures to torture. The British responded to the call, and in the first week alone they put to sleep more than 750 thousand pets. A monument in Hyde Park with animal bas-reliefs and the inscription: "They had no choice" reminds of a terrible tragedy today
Animal planet: design "animal logos" by Australian Dan Fleming
Why did Adam call the tiger a tiger? Because he thought he looked like a tiger, says an old English joke. Australian designer Dan Fleming (Dan Fleming) thought like this led to the creation of a whole cycle of prints - images of animals, whose names are completely identical with their own appearance
Sculptures from car hubcaps
What is garbage for one person is a treasure for another, an irreplaceable material for creating works of art. For many of us, hubcaps are part of the car, but for some, they are creative stuff. Ptolemy Elrington is one of those people. He creates amazing creatures - dragons, flies, dogs, crocodiles, dolphins, toucans, lizards - from car hubcaps. This is his passion, but also a certain message that it is possible to breathe into used and discarded things
