Another series of photo masterpieces from National Geographic is dedicated to animals, insects, birds, which people observe with curiosity … And they, on their part, observe people. Picturesque African landscapes, underwater beauty of the oceans, snow-white snows of Antarctica - all this can be seen in a selection of the best pictures of the past week for 07-13 January.

Amboseli National Wildlife Refuge is Kenya's oldest wildlife sanctuary. Founded in the early 50s of the last century, it is famous for the large number of elephants living here. One of the most fascinating and picturesque sights in the reserve is a huge herd of 600-700 elephants wandering in search of food or looking for shelter from the approaching bad weather.

Port Lockroy is a natural harbor on the Antarctic Peninsula. There is a museum, and with it - a gift shop and the only post office on the entire peninsula. People and penguins live on the territory of Port Lockroy, and the territory is divided in half - penguins and tourists come to visit people, and outsiders are not allowed to enter the penguins. Tourists captured this pair of newborn babies, ghent chicks, who looked around in surprise and curiosity.

In the forests of Wisconsin, especially in the conservation area, it is not difficult to see huge grasshoppers basking in the sun on a warm fine autumn evening. One such reckless grasshopper caught the lens of a photographer from National Geographic.

I suppose everyone had to watch how the seagulls hunt for fish. The birds fold their wings and dive swiftly into the water, emerging with their prey in their beak. Near the Santa Maria reef, near Cabo San Lucas in Mexico, the photographer managed to photograph what a diving bird looks like not in the air, spreading its wings, but deep under water, aiming at a school of fish.

Usually, such situations rarely happen in the world of big feral cats, but the photographers managed to capture a historical moment: the fight of spotted predators for fresh game. The female leopard came to take the prey from the male cheetah, and no one expected that he would fight, because in the hierarchy of spotted predators, the cheetah is below the leopard. However, the male had not eaten for several days, so he began to heroically defend his lunch. But alas, sometimes your efforts are worthless, one works, and the other reaps the benefits. In this battle, the female leopard was stronger.

Lake Hula in Israel is considered a unique nature reserve, a real bird house. The valley by the lake is one of the main stopping and resting points for migratory birds from north to south and vice versa. During the season, about half a billion birds fly over the valley, including more than 100 thousand cranes. After the "halt" they continue along the route, but some of the birds, and these are several hundred thousand heads, remain in the valley until spring.

A shepherd for animals is not only a watchman and educator, but also a "father". It seems that this is how a young cow refers to an Indian shepherd who lay down to rest on the side of the pasture. Seeing the photographer, the animal got nervous, and gradually moved closer to the place where the "father" settled down to rest.
