If you come to visit Cheeming Boey and ask the owner for water, he will definitely bring you it in a painted disposable foam cup. Well, when you get drunk, you will definitely notice that such cups are everywhere in the Boi house, because the owner is an artist, only instead of a brush he uses an ordinary black marker, and instead of a canvas - yes, the surface of these same cups.

His passion for this kind of art began three years ago, in 2006. Then Cheming Boi went into a coffee shop and, out of habit, wanted to automatically draw some scribbles, but could not find the paper. Without thinking twice, he took the used glass and began to draw on it. So an ordinary accident became the main thing in the artist's life.

He began to collect coffee cups and paint on them whatever came into his head. At first, these were simple drawings depicting the author himself: at work, while eating … Now the theme of the Boi drawings is varied: these are intricate patterns of waves, birds and fish; and images of Japanese gods; and scenes from life in Malaysia and San Francisco.

The mountain of painted glasses on the artist's shelves grew, his friends came to visit and were perplexed, and once they noticed that although his works were cute, it didn't look like anyone would pay money for them. It was a challenge. Cheming Boi took his works to the exhibition - and he himself did not expect the deafening success that followed. His works were recognized as unusual and unique, they wanted to buy them. Cups, which are priced at 4 cents, now sell for between $ 120 and $ 220.

“Styrofoam cups are the epitome of the pop culture we live in,” says Cheming Boi. “People consider them unsuitable for art because they are cheap and fragile. That is why I decided to paint on them."
