What if you want to paint a picture, but there are too many ideas and impressions to fit on one canvas? It takes a long time to draw several works; increasing the size of the canvas is not an option. Karen Blackerby found a way out: in one picture she fits several, “squeezing” each individual work to the size of a thin vertical strip. The result is an image that looks very much like a barcode!
As Karen Blackby herself says, pictures from the so-called "barcode" series reflect her impressions of her travels in South America. In total, there are five paintings in the series, and each work is dedicated to a particular country visited by the artist, and each vertical strip represents impressions and memories "brought" from this country.
Karen Blackby does not explain why some stripes in her paintings are in color, while others are black and white. But we can assume that with flowers she highlights her brightest, most unforgettable meetings and impressions. In general, pictures in the form of barcodes are a very interesting move. If you need to quickly refresh your memories of the trip, then you can not get an album with hundreds of photos, but instead look at a single picture!
Karen Blackby lives in Boston, USA and makes a living as an interior designer. She has two higher educations - in the field of art and design, and the author believes that these two areas are inextricably linked.

Check the barcode on the portrait
Apparently, contemporary artists decided that everyone can create an ordinary picture, painted with paints or drawn with a pencil, and with this thought they began to compete with each other in mastering new materials for "drawing". Difficult stripes. Collection of creative barcodes by D-barcode
More recently, we have written with a grain of humor about unusual handmade fonts.
