On June 10, the opening of the thirteenth Moscow international competition of choreographers and ballet dancers will take place at the Bolshoi Theater. Throughout its history, this competition will be one of the most numerous, since only two hundred participants will take part in it. The names of the winners of this competition will be announced on June 20, each of them will receive a good prize - 100 thousand US dollars. Olga Golodets, the vice-premier and at the same time the chairman of the organizing committee of the competition, called this competition one of the most prestigious and significant. The names of the winners will add to the world ballet culture. This international competition is attended by participants from 27 countries of the world, including: China, Japan, Italy, South Africa, Panama and others. The chairman of the jury, Yuri Grigorovich, who was present at each such ballet competition, said that the range of participants had expanded significantly and he was very glad that almost the entire ballet world would meet on the stage of the Bolshoi Theater. The first competition between ballet dancers took place in 1964 in the city of Varna. Five years later, they decided to hold something similar in Moscow. This was the first Moscow International Competition. This event was not planned as a grand show. The main goal of this competition was to show the achievements of Russian ballet and demonstrate its superiority. Throughout the history of this ballet competition, ballet dancers from the Soviet Union and then from the Russian Federation have often won the Grand Prix. In 1973, Nadezhda Pavlova received the gilded bowl, Irek Mukhamedov in 1981, and Andrei Batalov in 1997. In 2005, Denis Matvienko from Ukraine became the owner of the Grand Prix Cup, who is currently working in Russia - he is the head of the NOVAT ballet troupe (Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theater). The wards of this winner will take part in the thirteenth competition. Choreographers and dancers from different cities of the country - Moscow, Yoshkar-Ola, Ufa, Krasnodar, Yakutsk and other cities - will also take part in it. A total of 90 participants from Russia are registered. But representatives of the Bolshoi Theater this year will not take part in the competition, since it coincided with the tour of most of the troupe in Japan.
