Rudolf Steiner noted that up to this age, children can feel or hear in the unconscious the experience of their ancestors. I've always been interested in this kind of thing, especially in connection with thoughts of my own childhood. The children in my sculptures are aware of this gift of theirs, also realizing that when they grow up, they will lose the opportunity to contact the unconscious, but will benefit from the advantages of adulthood."
