Lily Padula is a young illustrator from Brooklyn. Her work is full of movement and meaning. One would like to look at the artist's pictures for a long time, penetrating into a fascinating artistic space.
The artist grew up in a beach town on the eastern tip of Long Island. After graduating from the School of Fine Arts, she began working as a freelancer, independently choosing projects for herself. Her clients at various times became: The New York Times, McGraw-Hill Publishing, The Stranger, The New Republic, Willamette Week, The Dallas Observer, Bitch Magazine, Showpaper, Wherever Magazine, Slice Magazine, Light House Films and others. Lily's work has been featured on multiple occasions by Communication Arts magazine, American Illustration communities, The Society of Illustrators and others.
Padula is actively working with color. Perhaps it is the color that is the decisive element in most of her works. “Color is the easiest way for me to create a mood. Color can indicate the opposition of the elements, heroes - this is a very convenient tool,”the artist shares.
“I am pleased to think that my works are not so much like illustrations, but more like photographs of some alternative universe. Although the plots vary, I like to bring them to a common denominator so that the viewer has a sense of the unity of the place. Moreover, illustration is a universal language that does not imply language barriers. It seems to me that only with the help of illustration you can show how your inner world looks like,”says the artist.
The artist draws inspiration from a variety of sources. She is inspired by folk art, literature, nature and the people around her. It is curious that, unlike most artists, whose talent was noticeable almost from infancy, Lily's craving for creativity manifested itself only in her youth. “It is very important,” says the artist, “to be satisfied with what you are doing. And when your favorite business also brings money, this is probably happiness."
Another incredibly talented illustrator, author of "pictures with meaning", Rafael Alvarez, lives between New York and Berlin, works a lot and never ceases to amaze fans with new interesting projects.
