Noli Novak is one of the few artists to create artfully detailed pointillist portraits. Noli has been successfully working for the world famous Wall Street Journal for a long time. Her amazing works, illustrating various materials of the newspaper, amaze at the same time with restraint of form, richness of content and, of course, technique of execution. Novak's illustrations are reminiscent of old engravings, although they certainly look very in the spirit of the times.
The management of the Wall Street Journal, one of the largest and most influential publications known far outside the United States, began hiring artists to create various kinds of thematic images almost from the very first issue. The first illustrations were created using charcoal, and starting from the 1980s, images for the newspaper began to be performed in a single technique - pointillism (from the French pointillisme, literally "point", from the French point - point) - one of the stylistic directions of impressionism, distinguished by the original manner of writing. The artist applies individual dot-shaped strokes to the canvas, while the colors never mix.
The technique is incredibly difficult. Many people mistake Novak's works for photographs processed in one of the filters of a popular photo editor, however, her execution technique is so precise and high that the program's capabilities can hardly even come close to Novak's illustrations. Her work is rightfully considered exemplary, and the gallery of portraits is amazing.
The technique of pointillism is also owned by the Spanish artist Pablo Jurado Ruiz. Through his unusual creativity, he tells stories about love, disappointment, childhood, nature.
