There is no taboo for creative individuals, because even the simplest everyday things can turn into works of art for them. According to an American artist Ken Delmar, very soon, paper napkins will become a familiar alternative to album sheets. For 8 months now he has been experimenting, drawing portraits on napkins, and, it should be noted, he does it remarkably well.
Ken Delmar, a 71-year-old Connecticut artist, has devoted most of his life to the visual arts, always painting on canvas, but one lucky chance prompted him to look differently at napkins. One day, leaving home from his studio, he, as usual, wiped his brushes with a paper towel and noticed that the fragile material absorbed paint perfectly, the colors on it looked more shiny. True, the main problem was that the colors on the napkins were immediately mixed. Ken Delmar tried out how different brands of paper towels react to oil paints, and finally found the perfect combinations.
To make the finished work more durable, Ken Delmar processes them with a special varnish, and then places them between two plexiglass plates. In this form, portraits can be stored forever. The first to see Ken Delmar's unique drawings were visitors to a local art exhibition, where the artist was awarded second place. Now portraits on napkins can be seen at the George Billis Gallery in Manhattan, the artist's solo exhibition opened on September 5 and will last two weeks.
