The palace was built on the initiative of Maharana Jagat Singh II, the 62nd successor to the royal Mewar dynasty, in 1746 on Lake Pichola. This architectural masterpiece was originally named Jan Niwas in honor of the founder. Despite the fact that the lake palace is built on a natural stone foundation 4 acres high, when the water level in the lake rises, the illusion is created that the snow-white walls literally stand on the water.
For many years the palace belonged to the Singh dynasty, but in the 1960s. gradually began to decline. To prevent its destruction and find funds for the restoration of the building, it was decided to equip a hotel here. In 1971, management of the palace was transferred to the department of Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces, 75 additional rooms were created, in addition to the rooms already in the building.
Today, the Lake Palace boasts that the historical appearance of the landmark has been fully preserved; in the rooms you can see carved mahogany furniture, colorful frescoes, and silk products. A boat trip to the doors of the hotel is a kind of bonus for visitors, a tiny trip that sets you in a romantic mood. Despite the fact that the hotel is one of the most expensive in the country, there are plenty of people who want to relax here, because the Lake Palace is rightfully included in the top ten best hotels in the world.
