As usual, by tradition, on the site Kulturologiya.rf - the best photos of the past week, selected by the team National Geographic … In the first week of the new, 2012, January 02-08, it will not be animals, not plants, not strange and amazing rituals from other cultures, but only stunning landscapes collected in different parts of the world.

The Italian region of Tuscany is famous for the fact that its territory is hilly by two-thirds and mountainous by a quarter. And this amazing landscape in the picture, the author of which is the photographer and traveler Jure Kravanja, caught his attention quite by accident, and all thanks to the colors in which the sun illuminated the cloudy sky.

At the dizzying height of the 55th floor (about 200 meters), Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, houses one of the "most" swimming pools in the world. The size of this outdoor pool is larger than the three Olympic ones, and it is equipped on a platform in the form of a huge gondola, which would be longer than the Eiffel Tower if someone decided to install it vertically. The cost of this mind-blowing project was 4 billion pounds, and all the beauty in his photo was captured by Chia Ming Chien.

Lake Champlain is unofficially called a border guard lake, since being mostly in New York Vermont, it stretches far to the north, right up to the Canadian province of Quebec. Champlain is also called "cold lake", it's not hard to guess why. This picturesque area is famous for quaint villages, above one of which photographer Alan Nyiri "caught" a double rainbow of stunning beauty.

If you photograph the picturesque streets of the Canadian city of Ontario through the rain-drenched glass of a car, you get amazing images that resemble paintings painted with oil paints. The photographer Frederic Mercnik was convinced of this, once in the afternoon waiting out the rain in his car, and while away the time, having fun with the camera.

When planning to visit Thailand, knowledgeable people choose November for travel, namely, the end of the month, the day of the 12th full moon according to the Thai lunar calendar. And all because at this time the Thais celebrate the strikingly beautiful and romantic holiday Loy Krathong (or Loi Krathong). It is called the holiday of worship of the Buddha and the goddess of water Phra Mae Khongkha, for which boats (kratongs) are allowed along rivers and other bodies of water in order to cleanse themselves from sins and at the same time pay tribute to the goddess of water. And if this holiday coincides in time with the festival of soaring lanterns of Ii Peng, which is celebrated in the same month, then at night thousands of sky lanterns are launched into the black sky. Photographer Patrice Carlton managed to capture this breathtaking sight on his camera.

There is an opinion that in Iceland volcanoes and glaciers are waging an eternal struggle, in which no one has yet won. The sights of this cold island, home to the once sensational and infuriating volcano Eyjafjallajökull, are numerous ponds with hot water, geothermal springs that attract tourists. One of these ponds, filled with crystal-clear turquoise water enriched with silicon, caught the attention of photographer David Remacle.

September morning in the Netherlands usually looks impeccably stunning, and this is due to the fact that very often there is an amazingly beautiful fog here at this time of the year. And the child caught in the photographer's frame, hurrying to school on his bicycle, probably had no idea how picturesque the landscape was, unfolding both in front of him and behind him, and indeed everywhere around. Tinted by the rising sun, the orange mist looks truly magical.
