Forty ladies from a club called "Afternoon Club" in the English village of Merschem made their land famous all over the world by tying an exact replica of their native village, working on the project for no less than 23 years!
It all started back in 1986, when 12 women read an article in one of the women's weeklies about a group of craftsmen who created a similar project. It was then that they promised each other that they would “wipe their nose,” but they had no idea that this business would become the most important part of their life.
An exact knitted copy of Merschem consists of 100 fragments. Everything is presented here, down to the smallest detail, including even teenagers who smoke around the corner, hiding from their parent's eyes. In the village, everything is made of yarn: houses, shops, playgrounds and parks, two churches, cafes, cars on the roads, flowers in the garden, even residents doing their usual work. In total, the model has 72 buildings, 8 shops, a train and many little people.
Over the years, Afternoon Club members have shown their art at various fairs and exhibitions, raising a considerable £ 10,000 for the village. But now they plan to sell the knitted model, as it has become too heavy for transportation, and it is worth noting that the club members are on average 80 years old.
The knitted village is an incredible demonstration of creativity and ingenuity, human endurance, patience, perseverance and the ability to achieve a set goal, even if it may take half your life.

Who were the women who were held in captivity by the English monarchs, and why did they go to jail
Meghan Markle and her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, both complained that they were imprisoned by the British royal family. History shows us that these two women were not the first to find themselves in this position. From time to time, British monarchs kept women in honorable (or not so honorable) imprisonment. Perhaps this is one of the bad old English traditions that is so difficult to abandon, who knows

German, Polish, English and Swedish: Where did the Russian princes look for wives?
There is a myth that Russian rulers began to “become Germanized” by choosing foreign brides over and over again only after Peter I, and in the old days princes and tsars looked only at ruddy Slavic young women. In fact, even the first Russian prince Igor (Inger) recorded in the annals married a girl from the "Varangian" family, who later became famous as St. Olga
Why Alexander II did not marry the English queen he loved
This romance began suddenly and nearly ruined the plans of the two powers. This story clearly demonstrates how monarchs had to sacrifice real feelings for the sake of state interests. In 1839, the young Queen Victoria ruled in England. At the same time, Tsarevich Alexander was in Europe in search of a bride and even had already looked for a suitable candidate for himself. Nobody thought that representatives of the royal dynasties would fall in love with each other. However, this is exactly what happened
How an English pirate became the first person to make three trips around the world and saved Robinson
Become a pirate or become a scientist? It turns out that sometimes it is not necessary to choose - in any case, William Dampier, privateer of Her Majesty Queen Anne, became famous in both fields. A follower of Francis Drake, not only in capturing foreign ships, but also in exploring new lands, Dampier studied unfamiliar southern shores, exotic flora and fauna with great interest. And, like all scientists, he was not very good at coping with the financial side of life
