Dutchman Florentijn Hofman believes that the bigger the objects, the better they are. If the thing is of a normal size, that's fine, but much more interesting if it is huge. Perhaps the installations by Florentin Hoffmann do not pretend to be in line with the masterpieces of world art, but they, without a doubt, cause surprise, smile and make the world at least a little more fun.
Obviously, Florentin Hoffmann's exhibits cannot fit in ordinary galleries, so they are usually located in public places. For example, one of his most famous works - a yellow rubber duckling created as part of the Estuaire 2007 contemporary art exhibition - swayed importantly on the waves of the Loire River (France) and looked at the audience from a height of 26 meters. According to the author himself, “the rubber duck knows no boundaries, does not distinguish between people and does not carry political implications. A friendly floating duckling has healing properties and can help resolve world tensions. The rubber duck is soft, friendly and suitable for all ages!"
In 2006, for the fifth anniversary of the Schiermonnikoog International Chamber Music Festival, Florentin created an installation of giant half-sunken pianos.
Another work by Florentin Hoffmann is the giant muskrat in the village of Niuwerkerk on the IJssel as a symbol of the magnitude of the problem these animals pose for the inhabitants of the Netherlands by destroying dams.
Hoffman's installations also include a huge rabbit made from recycled wood (created as part of a social project) and a red guard dog "guarding" the village of Lins.
Sometimes Florentin is distracted from his sculptures and takes up paint. But even here he does not deviate from his main principle: the more, the better. What is the "blue quarter" of Rotterdam, intended for demolition and painted in bright blue! By the way, thanks to this reception, the area has become one of the most attractive places for tourists in the city. Hofmann also painted a road in one of the poorest cities in the Netherlands, Sidham, bright yellow. After all, yellow is known to be a symbol of wealth and prosperity.
