The Buddhist temple Wat Rong Khun, located in the city of Chang Rei (Thailand), is rightfully considered one of the most beautiful not only in its native country, but throughout the world. Snow-white, not like traditional temples and built a little over ten years ago, it has easily become a national landmark that attracts tourists from all over the world.
The idea to build the temple belongs to a Thai artist named Chalermchai Kositpipat. The main difference between his design and traditional Buddhist structures is that Wat Rong Khun is completely white on the outside. As conceived by the author, the white color symbolizes the purity of the Buddha, and the white glass used in the construction is a symbol of the Buddha's wisdom, which "shines brightly throughout the Earth and the Universe."
The construction of the temple began in 1997 and has not yet been completed. The fact is that Chalemchay is going to create a whole complex of nine buildings. The author calculated that the implementation of his ideas would take from 60 to 90 years, so the 55-year-old architect dedicated five students helping him to his plans - they will have to continue the work of their teacher. It is interesting that Chalemchay does not accept any sponsorship: in his opinion, this will inevitably lead to changes in the initial project to please the interests of the sponsors, which cannot be allowed.
The snow-white temple personifies paradise, and in order to get into it, you need to go through a symbolic hell - a bridge from under which the hands of sinners reach out to the feet of the walker. There is a park around the temple, where around a pond with fish there are snow-white sculptures, also designed by Chalemchay. Basically, these are mythological creatures, each of which carries a certain meaning.
However, not everything in the snow-white temple complex is white. There is also a beautiful golden building on the territory, which tourists initially mistake for another temple. In fact, the magnificent golden structure is … an ordinary toilet.
