The author began his first experiments with video equipment back in 1962: having bought 13 TV monitors, Nam Jun Paek assembled his first sculpture from them: with the help of an electromagnet, the author manipulated the image on the screen and “destroyed” commercials. After that, sculptures and installations from televisions became a kind of visiting card of the artist: from video equipment, he creates robots, musical instruments, a map of the United States. Interestingly, the author does not just put together sculptures from video equipment: each monitor displays its own image.

There are also more exotic works in the author's collection: for one of the shows, held in collaboration with cellist Charlotte Moorman, Nam Jun Paek dressed a girl in a bra made of miniature monitors. And in 1988, specially for the Olympic Games in Seoul, the author "built" the video tower "The More the Better", consisting of 1003 TVs.

Another unusual installation by Nam Jun Paek is the TV Garden. 120 working monitors, placed by the author among the lush thickets of plants, look like exotic flowers. This installation has become a kind of symbol of the unity of technology, nature and art.

And despite all his accomplishments in the field of video art, Nam Joon Paek has always maintained that he considers himself a musician first and foremost.
