The sculptures and installations created by the American Andrea Myers are often quite abstract and incomprehensible. Bright and multi-layered, they resemble some kind of fantastic landscapes and attract the attention of the audience with their uniqueness.
“Through my creative practice, I maintain an interest in exploring the space between 2D and 3D by crossing drawing, graphics and sculpture,” says the author. "I know that my work depends on many processes, such as the relationship between destruction and creation, or the malleability and vulnerability of the materials used." Andrea Myers describes himself as an artist who creates pictorial sculptures and installations. She uses painting as a matrix from which she starts, but which she embodies in various other materials. In addition, in painting, the author draws inspiration for further work, finds the necessary shapes and colors.
“I am involved in the physical and material processes of creating objects that exist between painting and sculpture. Contrasts in materiality, form and scale are constantly driving my work,”says Andrea Myers. Her current project is layering 2D materials, mainly textiles and wood, to create 3D shapes. The author says that in this work, she continues her gentle approach to formalism, mixing elements of painting and sculpture in objects that challenge the audience's expectations.
Andrea Myers lives and works in Chicago, although she herself is from Columbus, Ohio. In 2006, she received her Master's Degree in Textiles and Materials from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
