For most artists, paper is just a canvas on which they create their art. At the same time, there are craftsmen in whose hands paper itself can be turned into an object of art. And while the idea of paper cut, applique, collage is not new or unusual, the results are always different. Today Megan Brain will try to surprise us with her works, which the artist herself relates to the genre of paper sculpture.
The process of creating paper sculptures, according to Megan, is filled with a series of questions. Some of them are associated with the choice of the forms of the future work - whether its outlines will be soft and winding or, on the contrary, straight sharp lines will prevail in the work. The following questions arise when choosing a paper color. When the main idea of the future sculpture is ready, Megan starts carving. The artist calls their flexibility as the main advantage of paper sculptures: if necessary, you can always add some new elements or remove unnecessary ones.
Megan Brain tries to carve her sculptures without using preliminary pencil sketches. Of course, it would be easier to draw a line in advance and cut an image along it, but the artist believes that in this case the sculpture loses a piece of something important. Therefore, some elements Megan patiently cuts out over and over again - until it turns out exactly as she wanted.
The artist draws inspiration from reading books about animals, different cultures, places, art. Sometimes Megan meets ideas for future works in films. The artist's favorite theme is the depiction of various world cultures. In addition, she is interested in topics of fashion and the animal world.
The main piece of advice from Meghan the artist is: look for the art form that you like. The girl herself was engaged in animation until she realized that her real vocation was paper sculptures. Megan believes that when people decide on what they love in school or college, this is a real gift of fate, because sometimes years can pass in search of their destiny. Well, from this point of view, Megan Brian herself has already received her gift from fate.
