Delicate, quivering, fragile, with a deep inner meaning - these words can describe the works of the artist Sybille Peretti, who in her work explores the spiritual connection between man and nature.
Peretti depicts children, brooding and divorced from society, placing them in an illusory fictional world of their own fantasies. The illustrations of the children were taken from the 19th century medical book by the artist. Their gaze is wild and intent. They are calm and humble. For her installations, Peretti made photocopies of illustrations, covered them with rubber, threads and glass. In creating her works, Sibylla uses such natural materials as water, honey, flowers, bees and animals. The attractive mysticism emitted by these works of art beckons the viewer to plunge into that mysterious world, feeling its calmness and remoteness from reality.
In all her works, Peretti shows that during the flowering of our youth, the craving for the secrets of nature, its ability to heal and the potential for beauty, is associated with our dreams and desires, the belief in salvation. Children from Sibylla Peretti's installations remind us that we are losing our humanity by remaining deaf to the smallest inhabitants of our planet, children.
Sibylla Peretti was born in 1964 in Mulheim-Ruhr, Germany. She studied sculpture and painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cologne, where she earned her master's degree. Her work can be seen in many museums in the United States and Europe. Since 1992 he has been living and working in New Orleans.
