At the illustrator's Nikolay Fomin allergic to words and, on the other hand, he feels Russian nature like no other. This was influenced by a biological education, taxidermist skills and a passion for ethnography. All this versatile knowledge is reflected in his work. In a series of illustrations "Trees in Female Images" the artist shows how indivisible nature and feminine.

Talking about himself, Nikolai Fomin says that he "grew up in the Urals and good book illustrations." This greatly influenced his fate. In the beginning there was an affection for nature, a love for hunting, instilled by the father. Therefore, he went to study as a hunting biologist, and not as an artist. Although Nikolai painted since childhood (mainly forest dwellers and wild animals), he did not plan to do it seriously. After graduation - 5 years of "serving Nature" in hunting grounds on the Karelian Isthmus. And in the evenings he studied English and Scandinavian languages, read and, of course, painted - he never gave up this hobby. Then Nikolai Fomin worked for several years not in his specialty, but, returning to the Urals, was engaged in taxidermy, carving of iconostases. After trying many activities, the artist eventually realized that his vocation was in drawing. Now Nikolai Fomin is a free artist.

Nikolai Fomin's desire to become an illustrator arose out of his love for good book illustrations, which he saw as a child. The artist is very fond of the life of the indigenous peoples of the North, so in his illustrations you can often see traditional folk costumes and the beauty of northern nature. Like Evgeny Gavlin or Yuri Ueda, Nikolai Fomin prefers watercolors, he likes the feeling of the material and the possibilities of watercolors.

According to the artist, there is a feminine principle in Nature, to which he constantly refers in his illustrations. The series "Trees in Female Images" is a confirmation of this. Trees traditional for Russian nature (birch, larch, bird cherry, linden, spruce, etc.) are depicted in the images of women who personify them.
