On June 20, an exhibition opened in the St. Petersburg Hermitage, which presents paintings that are part of the collection of the Morozov brothers. This exhibition was organized jointly by the Pushkin Museum in Moscow and the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.
Mikhail Piotrovsky, who holds the position of general director at the St. Petersburg museum, drew attention to the fact that the masters have specially recreated the space of the Musical Salon for this exposition, the design of which was once done by Maurice Denis. During his speech, he recalled that now another major exhibition is being held in Moscow, which presents works from the collection of the merchant Sergei Shchukin, one of the most important collectors of works of art of the twentieth century.
In the materials that accompany the St. Petersburg exhibition, it is said that such a concept as "patron of art" appeared precisely thanks to the collectors Shchukin and Morozov. The collections that they have collected, are stored in St. Petersburg and Moscow, are recognized as one of the best collections in the whole world. The Hermitage said that they decided to present the Morozov collection in the context of the Imperial Museum.
In total, 109 works of art were selected for this exhibition, which are permanently stored in the St. Petersburg museum, and they were supplemented with another 31 canvases that arrived from Moscow. The exposition presents more amazing works that are considered world masterpieces. Visitors to the exhibition will be able to see paintings by Pablo Picasso "Wandering Gymnasts", "Girl on a Ball", "Portrait of Ambroise Vollard", the work of Henri Matisse "Moroccan Triptych". One of the rooms houses two portraits of Jeanne Samary, a French actress, painted by Pierre Auguste Renoir and kept in different museums. In the Musical Salon, artificially recreated by the masters, it was decided to place a cycle of panels about Psyche, the creator of which is Maurice Denis.
Only Moscow and St. Petersburg will not be limited. Next year, an exhibition of the Morozovs' works will be held in Paris. In this exposition, it is planned to use exhibits not only from the Moscow Pushkin Museum and the St. Petersburg Hermitage, but also from the Tretyakov Gallery. Another exhibition of the collection of the Morozovs and Shchukin will change places, that is, the collection of the former will be shown in Moscow, the latter - in St. Petersburg.
