“Life is not just sitting at the table every day to make money and buy things,” said the 43-year-old mother, who quit her job and embarked on an endless journey with her daughter. This is how she explains why she is never going to return to the old way of life.
Evie Farrell from Sydney started her journey last year. She took her daughter with her, who is now 6 years old, and has not yet returned to her homeland. "This is the best I can give Emmy," explains Evie.
Evie hardly thought she would spend her 43rd year of life this way - in endless travel, adventure and new acquaintances - but after the woman lost her close friend last year, she decided to dramatically change her life. At that time, she had 30,000 Australian dollars from her savings, so Evie and Emmy went with them to wander around the world. Since February 2016, they have already visited 13 countries.
Initially, Evie planned to travel only for a year, but now the deadline is approaching, and she does not feel at all ready to return. “This year has flown by so quickly,” Evie says, adding that they are likely to stay on the road for at least another 6 months. "We want to fly to Vietnam, where Emmy will go to school, and I will try to earn money for further travel. My savings have already come to an end, but we still have a small income from renting a house in Australia, so we will not drown."
The mother of her 6-year-old daughter is sure that traveling is much easier than many imagine. "We've been traveling for a whole year with only one backpack on our shoulders. And I'm not going to return to the old way of life." According to Evie, this new way of life is not only cheaper than living in Sydney, but it can also give her a lot in return. "This year I realized that if you really want something very badly, it will happen."
While the couple travels around the world - Taiwan, Borneo, Bali, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, London, Paris, China - Evie teaches her daughter Emmy through a special school distance learning program. "Traveling life is, in principle, very similar to what we had at home - school, rules of conduct, time to go to bed and eat on time - I just raise my daughter in absolutely amazing countries."
“We meet other travelers who travel with families and Amy is having a great time with them. It’s good because she’s far from her friends at home. Now she has so many new friends and it’s such a great experience to be in all these countries."
Before returning to Vietnam, Evi plans to travel to Cambodia, visit an elephant sanctuary and celebrate the year since their journey began. “It was great to celebrate the New Year in China,” says Evie. “We watched the Christmas show if the food was local. I wouldn't trade this experience, moreover, I hope it inspires other moms and dads to venture out with their kids.."
Traveling tips from Evie Farrell:
- Get ready to change plans. Do not plan back to back, there should always be an opportunity for changes and time to adjust to them - If you are traveling with someone, discuss all your decisions and, if necessary, look for a compromise - Do not forget about your relatives and friends - use the opportunities that you provide different apps like Skype and FaceTime. - Plan ahead, save money and consider factors such as study, budget and buying new things. Be prepared to sacrifice some of this while you are on the road - Do not shy away from local buses, night trains, ferries and tuk tuk to save money. - The most important thing is to realize that you no longer need to adhere to the usual rhythm of work - now you yourself manage your time. And this can be the most difficult. But also the most beautiful.
Does Evie have any regrets about missing a year at home? - None. "This is the most wonderful time. And if we weren't traveling, I would go to work every day, and Emmy would go to school and be under the care of nannies. Now life has much more meaning than before, it is very important to be with my daughter, when she's that age. And this is the best gift I could give her. And for myself too."

10 celebrities who would not have been born if their parents had not decided to have many children
First-borns, as a rule, are smarter and more talented than the next children in the family, scientists say. The reason for this is the smaller amount of attention and parental resources that go to the younger ones: if there is an opportunity to invest a lot of effort and time in the first or second child, then the third and fourth are not so lucky. And the fifth? Seventh? Seventeenth? Here are the people without whom the history of mankind would have been different, all of them are far from being the first to be born to their parents, who still managed to raise geniuses
