If the hobbits did not live in burrows under the hills, they would surely have liked the cozy structures, the works of the talented artist Patrick Dougherty, which fit perfectly into the surrounding nature. The woven structures are surprisingly in harmony and, one might even say, complement and visually enrich the place where they are located.
Combining the skills of a carpenter with a love of nature, Patrick Dougherty began to study primitive construction techniques and experiment with "playing with wood." To "twist" his installations, the sculptor uses tree branches as a building material. He began his activity with the creation of small works, later, moving on to massive large-scale installations, for the construction of which a branch truck is needed.
Dougherty's installations are reminiscent of nests, cocoons, hives and dens built by animals, or creations of natural forces, but not created by the hands of a sculptor.
Patrick Dougherty is the author of 150 amazing installations of tree branches installed around the world - the United States, Europe and Asia.
In 1982, his work MapleBodyWrap was included in the North Carolina Biennale Art Exhibition, sponsored by the North Carolina Museum of Art.

The secret royal love nest did not become a famous tourist attraction, so it managed to preserve the spirit of the era. This is a very secluded and romantic place on the territory of the reserve, which reliably keeps all its secrets
Patrick Dougherty - sculptor who builds nests
Probably in a past life sculptor Patrick Dougherty from North Carolina was a bird. Moreover, be sure to the one that builds its own nests - such large, sturdy bird houses. Because in this real life, he devoted himself to creating quite unusual installations, the likes of which I had never seen before. From hundreds of thousands of thin sticks and twigs, Patrick builds … not nests, no. Large-scale sculptures, real decorations for parks, gardens, squares and even premises

The Bavarian artist Nils-Udo and his support team probably made a nest of incredible size and weight in the Clemson University Botanic Gardens especially for such situations. The amazing sculpture-installation received the quite logical name The Nest
