In the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, the qualifying rounds of the Tango World Championship started on August 13. This time 11 pairs will perform from the Russian Federation at once. Five couples have already managed to advance to the next stages; dancers who have become the best in performances in Turkey and at the Russian championship go straight to the semifinals. All in all, more than 500 couples from different parts of the world take part in these dance competitions.
The qualifying rounds in Argentina began with the so-called stage tango, which is characterized by the classical style. Basic figures and steps are always present in the dance. All participants are divided into groups, each of which includes 9 couples. One group is given three musical compositions, and no one knows until the last moment which pair, to which music they are going to perform.
For the qualifying rounds, we chose the cultural center Usina del Arte, in which now all the corridors are more like changing rooms and a dressing room, where at the same time the dancers also carry out warm-ups before the performance. Even experienced dancers, who have been taking part in this championship for several years already, talk about the excitement before the performance.
They also say that, in general, the style of the dance is preserved, the partners are still close to each other, but at the same time, changes in outfits are very visible. Many couples deviate significantly from the classics, preferring to dance in bright outfits, in which even acid colors are often present today. The image of men who can afford to use additional accessories for decoration, and not just a scarf and tie, is also slightly transformed.
Ruslan Takhirov, who has not missed tango championships since 2011, said that this dance has recently become very popular in the Russian Federation. The increased interest in him led to an increase in the number of Russian representatives at various championships, including the World Tango Championship. The final of the championship will be held at the Luna-Park sports complex on August 21 and 22.
It is worth noting that at the same time as the World Championships, a festival dedicated to tango is being held in Buenos Aires. Within the framework of this festival, exhibitions, performances, numerous concerts, master classes are held to help everyone learn how to dance tango.
