12 Best Compositions of the Art of Construction Art Photography Competition 2019

Art is an extremely broad and varied concept. It takes many forms, be it visual, auditory or experiential, digital or physical, written or depicted - the list is endless. For endless human imagination and ambition. Oh, and the size does not matter either! The most interesting thing is that there is also art in art. A kind of combo art that gives our perception a new vision of how we live. Let's see how talented photographers combined architecture and photography and what came of it.

Both architecture and photography are art forms. Both forms can not only coexist together in the same environment, but also allow the photographer to create amazing and unique work. Every year the British Institute of Building (CIOB) hosts the Art of Building photography competition. For ten years now, thousands of talented photographers from all over the world have had the opportunity to present their works to the jury and spectators. Photographic works that allow us to look at the achievements of modern construction and architecture from unexpected angles. The organizers have selected 12 best works from a huge number of photographs. Traditionally, there are two winners in the competition. One is determined by the jury, the other - by voting on the Internet. The rest of the winners were ranked by the number of votes cast on the competition website.

# 1 "Fish", Pedro Luis Ayuriaguerra Saiz

This year, the judges gave preference to Pedro Luis Ayuriaguerra Saiz, who filmed the City of Science and Art in Valencia. This building really looks like a giant prehistoric fish. It was not easy for Saiz, as he had to put a lot of effort into planning his Pisces photo. “The conditions had a huge impact on the photograph: for example, it was necessary to shoot at night, it had to be clear, without rain and with a little wind, so that the reflection in the water could be clearly shown.”

# 2 "Metrostation", Alexander Bormotin

The winner of the Public Choice award was an impressive contrasting photo of the Savelovskaya metro station in Moscow. # 3 "Muralla Roya" by Agnese Sanvito

The photographer says that when he was filming this postmodern apartment complex in Spain, he had the feeling that he was in one of the paintings of Giorgio de Chirico. Such feelings are understandable, because this place looks just fabulous. This photographic work won the hearts of people with its delicate pastel color palette. Photography simply plunges us into a state of serene peace and tranquility. It is a pity, as the organizers noted, that this year there were so few images of modest buildings against the backdrop of nature.

# 4 "Axonometry", Grzegorz Tatarsky

This futuristic construction of glass and metal shows the deep urbanization of our society, in which there is so little room for the unassuming beauty of nature. It is rather difficult to imagine exactly how the building, which is captured by the photographer in this picture, actually looks like. But it was this unusual perspective, the top view of the underground entrance to the building of the National Music Forum in Wroclaw, that captivated the audience. This is a great example of axonometry in architecture.

# 5 "Sea and People" by David Martin Huamani Bedoya

This is a rare photo where architecture simply merges with the environment. The work gives a feeling of dreaminess. Here I just want to reflect on the futility of being and the meaning of life.

While there are clear criteria for selecting candidates for the public vote, picking the best of the best proved to be quite difficult, the organizers explained. After all, the buildings are very diverse, but you need to find something so unusual, a different point of view on everyday things. This photographic work certainly surprised the audience.

# 7 "Bexhill Asylum" by Adam Regan

In this photographic work, it turned out to be so difficult to understand what the building looks like that on the voting site many asked what it was. The building looks very unusual, as if it was turned inside out.

# 8 "The Bank" by Jonathan Walland

"I use minimalism as a means of providing clarity. My method prevents the viewer from being distracted and keeps his attention on the purest elements of photography: form, light, texture and their interaction." Here the audience was captivated by a certain artistic uniqueness of the image. This photo looks like a painting. People may think that they have seen this landscape thousands of times, but a photographer comes and takes a photo and you might think that you are looking at it for the first time in your life.

The people in this photo were waiting for the street festival in Portugal to begin. The photographer says that when he looked at them, their beautiful harmonious silhouettes and the space around them, he wanted to capture it.

Looking at the windows, vaults and other architectural details designed in graphic editors and neatly printed, it is impossible to understand what is hidden behind the false facades. It can be an architectural monument to be restored, hidden from public view, an emergency condition of a house, new construction, or just an empty space. with the help of digital retouching, without affecting the false facades. In the photographs, a lot seems familiar, but it is already unclear what actually exists and what has been digitally changed, and only creates a deceptive resemblance to reality."
