The unique change of lighting during the day, the whims of the weather and the ephemeral pattern of clouds - this is what gives the lion's share of impressions when you see the mountain landscape live. And the unpredictable force of the volcano can give a fantastic sight at any moment. To convey hours of contemplation in one picture - this is what Lev Granovsky made his task.
With ordinary, and even panoramic photography, it is difficult to convey the restless spirit of the mountains, where it is beautiful in its own way both on a cloudy and on a clear day. A majestic sight, where a bright valley can turn into a misty abyss, presents a difficult choice for the photographer. But by bringing together the best fragments of many frames, choosing the perfect combination of light and shadow, you can create a mosaic where every corner of the picture appears in all its glory.
Lev Granovsky travels all over the world - among his best works are photographs from Kamchatka, Hawaii, Iceland, Norway, Seychelles, Greece and many other countries. But the main passion of the photographer is mountain landscapes and volcanoes. One of his solo exhibitions was entirely devoted to volcanoes that make the heart flutter before the power of the planet itself (if you like lava flows and fiery splashes, then you will appreciate the wonderful photos of volcanoes from Martin Rietze and Brad Lewis). As the author admits, only modern digital capabilities photographs allow him to fully express what he wants. Many details of the image are visible only at high resolution, so the original exhibition works of Granovsky are huge - at least a few square meters, and are enclosed in special plastic matrices for safekeeping.
In addition to magnificent photographs of the Alps, Kamchatka and Hawaiian volcanoes, Granovsky has a unique photograph of the erupting Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajokull - during the flight ban in 2010, he was the only one who had a chance to approach the volcano, which had paralyzed air traffic, from the air.
Lev Granovsky has been involved in photography for only 5 years, but he has already had several personal exhibitions (by education he is a geologist, a member of expeditions, a fairly well-known scientist and a member of the Moscow State University Board of Trustees). Works of this level and scale are unique for Russia, and even all over the world there will be there are only a few photographers working on the same scale. Each photo requires not only talent, but also serious resources - most of the images were taken from the air in hard-to-reach areas. But for now, the author is not going to stop there, and several times a year goes on a hunt for new material.
