Vladimir Mayakovsky suggested playing the nocturne on the downspout flute. American artist Dave Cole hardly familiar with the work of the Russian futurist, but at the same time echoes him. He created a series of works in which he made me become musical instruments sewing machine, excavator and other items completely unsuitable for this.
Surprisingly, the inhabitants of the United States of America, as well as other peoples, are concerned about the loss of their identity under the influence of globalization. Few people already know what a sewing machine, a music box, knitting needles and many other specific items have been supplanted by modern devices and how they work.
This concern can be traced back to the work of artist Dave Cole, who recently exhibited at DODGEgallery in New York a series of works that reveal the essence of many old objects through music. For example, Cole took the name of the Singer sewing machine quite literally, causing it to produce music. And thanks to the efforts of this artist, a huge ten-ton skating rink has turned into a music box.
Dave Cole assembled an orchestra of jackhammers and an all-terrain vehicle, and two excavators turned into knitting needles, creating a huge flag of the United States of America out of wool.
It's funny, but people who did not even know what knitting needles, a Singer sewing machine or a jackhammer are, seeing the work of Dave Cole, will still have only a distant idea of the purpose of the items mentioned above. They will shrug their shoulders and be surprised to note that their ancestors were strange people, since they used the heavy roller shaft to produce the simplest melody.
