It seems that if an ice age suddenly begins on earth, humanity will not die out, like mammoths, but will continue to live a full life. After all, what the craftsmen will not come up with: ice sculptures, hotels and labyrinths will surprise no one for a long time, but musical instruments made of ice still remain a curiosity. "Ice Music" Is an original Swedish musical project that brought frosty freshness to the world of contemporary art!
Concerts of "Ice Music" are interesting because the audience can not only listen to wonderful music, but also admire the "crystal" instruments. Violin, viola, cello, double bass, banjo, mandolin, guitar, drums and xylophone - such an impressive orchestra has been assembled by the project leader, musician and ice sculptor Tim Linhart. He made his first attempts to create tools from ice 15 years ago. Despite the fact that they were not crowned with success, the enthusiast made every effort to make his dream come true over time.
Today "Ice Music" pleases listeners with wonderful sound. Some instruments are attached to the ceiling with special cables to prevent accidental damage (after all, ice violins tend to slip out of the hands of musicians). The concerts are held in a real igloo, the dome shape provides good acoustics. The igloo is kept at a constant temperature of -5 degrees, so that all listeners and the musicians themselves are advised to dress warmly and wear gloves.
Despite the low temperature, a warm atmosphere always reigns at the concerts. The enchanting sounds of music, a wonderful light show that accompanies the performance - all this allows the audience to fully plunge into the winter fairy tale of Swedish Lapland. You can listen to the musicians' audio recordings on their personal website.
By the way, the real competition for Swedish musicians can be made by their colleagues from Norway. This northern country hosts the annual Ice Music Geilo festival, about which we told the readers of the site Culturology. RF earlier.
