American Ken Butler is an extremely talented person. He is an artist, a musician, a composer, and a manufacturer of musical instruments. His instruments are not just ordinary violins, cellos, guitars, but a collection of unique instruments made from materials such as antler, machine gun, prostheses, metal detector and even a bed.
In his creative process, Ken Butler explores the connection, interaction and transformation of ordinary and unusual objects, sound, silence.
The master admits that the initial motivation for creating such hybrid instruments had nothing to do with the idea of a variety of types of musical instruments. It was more of a sculptural study, using everything at hand. For the musician Ken Butler, there are no things that could not be used to make musical instruments. Hammers, hockey sticks, tennis rackets, golf clubs, brooms - everything goes into action to bring strings, keyboards and percussion to life that can truly be played and taken on stage.
Hybrid instruments are presented at numerous exhibitions in the USA, including the Brooklyn Museum, the Lincoln Center in New York, Canada, Europe, Latin America, Thailand, and Japan. Ken Butler's works can also be found in private collections in Portland, Los Angeles, Toronto, Montreal, New York.
