Halloween pumpkins American artist Ray Villafane is a real sculpture: comic book heroes, medieval gargoyles and other eerie characters brought to life by the author's imagination. Scary and funny at the same time, if they don't scare you properly, they will definitely cheer you up!
Ray Villafane was born in 1969 in New York and graduated from the University of Painting and Graphics. Since 1993, the artist has been living in Michigan with his wife and six children. For a long time, Ray worked as an ordinary teacher at the school. He once decorated a Halloween room with a class, where he had to make a head from a pumpkin. And since he always loved sculpture, he decided - why not try to treat the pumpkin like clay? And he did it!
Work on pumpkins for halloween does not take the artist much time, he uses ordinary cutlery and a scalpel to create them. Ray writes: “The most difficult model for me was a pumpkin with a head on a snake, it took me almost a whole day. And so, making one sculpture takes 2-3 hours. But not all pumpkins work well. The main thing here is to choose the fleshy one. Sometimes I choose a pumpkin of the ideal shape, but then I realize that it is not heavy enough, and therefore not dense enough for carving. I also like pumpkins with character, they themselves suggest which heroes will turn out the best from them."
Ray creates not only pumpkin sculptures, but also figurines of superheroes, which are popular with collectors, and also makes pictures and illustrations for many famous magazines. But of course his halloween pumpkins received special attention, the artist will even receive a solid award for his perishable creations.
Not only Ray Villafane likes to break the rule “you can't play with food!”, We have already written about a whole cohort of sculptors who manage to cost mini-buildings and even very impressive structures from products. And the idea to do halloween pumpkins Came to mind more than one Ray, Alex Wer, for example, makes carved pumpkin lanterns with various images to order.

Instead of busts of politicians - busts of characters from Futurama. Realistic sculptures by Ray Lin
I remember that a bust of Taras Shevchenko stood on the cabinet in the study of the Ukrainian language and literature of my school. And on the table at the "Englishwoman" was, of course, a plaster of paris William Shakespeare. I don't know if busts of classics of Russian and foreign literature, playwrights, musicians or famous politicians are now being sold in stores, but some cartoon characters will certainly enter
