It is planned to open a branch of the Kizhi Museum and Reserve in St. Petersburg. Alla Manilova, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, spoke about this in her interview during the presentation of the Kizhi development concept. According to her, the minister himself gave the go-ahead for the opening of this branch.
It was decided to open a branch of the Museum-Reserve in the very center of St. Petersburg - opposite the Mariinsky Theater. Manilova noted that if everything goes according to plan, then its opening will take place in early 2019. Elena Bogdanova, director of "Kizhi" said that the branch will be located at Glinka Street, 2. This building now houses the Russian Military-Historical Society and the branch of ROSIZO. At the moment, the selection of premises for a branch is underway and a room with an area of 500 square meters is being considered.
The director of the Kizhi reserve museum recalled that the Kizhi Pogost is a UNESCO site. This is an important historical site that is under protection. The opening of a branch in the center of St. Petersburg will help show visitors what the masters have achieved in the restoration of wooden architecture objects, which are real works of art that should be preserved for posterity. The new branch will be dedicated specifically to wood products. They plan to exhibit utensils, furniture, dishes here.
Bogdanova noted that not everything will be shown in the branch, and only partial information will be told. The opening of a branch of the Kizhi Museum-Reserve should simply interest visitors, so that they would like to visit the Museum-Reserve itself. She was also noted that the museum is the owner of large funds, which will allow to update the exposition of the branch from time to time, so that those who have already visited here would be interested in coming back here again.
During the presentation of the Kizhi development concept at the Ministry of Culture, the director of the museum noted that everything planned would require an amount of 2.6 billion Russian rubles. In total, the plan includes 54 events that are planned to be held until 2027. The Kizhi development plan was approved back in 2016. Work on its implementation has been underway since 2017. During this time, eight events from the planned list were held. At the same time, about 600 million rubles were spent on them. The flow of tourists has already noticeably increased. This was largely due to the improvement of road infrastructure and the purchase of transport for the museum. Both events were planned.
