Someone in childhood was told that children are found in cabbage, others were brought by a stork, others were bought in a store … In general, as many people as there are, there are so many versions. A young Japanese sculptor Chie Aoki created his own algorithm for the origin of man. His sculptures clearly indicate that people emerge from abstract black drops and bubbles, and appear already mature and strong. Using expanded polystyrene and varnish, Chi Aoki creates his outlandish futuristic sculptures, in which he boldly and even daringly plays with the human body. Moreover, he feels special love for the legs. It does not matter which head "floats" out of this black varnished bubble - it is important that it stands firmly on its feet. Well, or sat on them.
Men and women, slender and plump, strong and weak - all of them, according to the theory of the Japanese sculptor, come from this "abyss". And they probably return to the same place. Therefore, sometimes it is not clear whether a figure emerges from it, or, on the contrary, dives deeper, away from here. Have you already thought about it? Well, that's all the author needs.
Despite all the conceptuality and abstractness of the works, Chie Aoki's exhibitions are successfully held both in his native Japan and overseas. You can take a closer look at the strange sculptures in the author's online gallery.
